People don’t like change, people fear change, but change can be, and often times, is good.
Notre Dame Hall, well really, The Knights and Notre Dame Hall, are going through a lot of changes. We are reinventing the way the Knights interacts with the City of Wayne and the community around us, we are seeking new members and growing our council and we are updating and expanding the hall. All good and positive changes.
But…
Change is also hard, very hard… It’s hard work renovating, its hard work finding new members and most of all it is hard work for current members to accept change, to grow along with us.
But…
We must change, adapt to the new world around us… And that world is different than it was 5, 10 or 20 years ago. Think about it, ten years ago, and the idea that charging stations would be such a big concern for a bar, but it is… WIFI for all is a must… Times have changed, and so must we…
But…
Yes we have to change, but, we must hold true to our mission as Knights. We must seek new members, but also hold on to existing, engage them and make them all feel welcomed and relevant. Not an easy task…
So…
In the spirit of change and growth, and a spirit of our past, the Knights and Notre Dame Hall have grown and changed…
The New…
We have repainted the hall and lounge, decorations are going up slowly, but they are going up (as it is in the world of volunteers). The outside is in the process of being painted and freshened up.
The Past…
And to honor our past we have two projects, the first, Our Memorial Garden, an small space outside to reflect and pray, the garden will be a memorial to all our Knights who have gone on to eternal rest. A plaque will be placed on the wall dedicating the garden along with the Knights logo. Family and Friends will be able to purchase a memorial plaque to add to the wall for any member of the Notre Dame Council who has passed on. This will serve as a constant reminder of life and death and the short time between the two. Allowing us a place to meditate on this life, and how we can best serve the God of eternal life.
And to honor all our past Grand Knights, the wall of honor will be installed with photos of our past Grand Knights along with a plaque thanking them for their service. Our past Grand Knights served our council out of a desire to do honor to the Knights and our membership.
So…
The Past and present will be represented, leading us to the future, and with the grace of God and the prayers of all, we will continue to grow, to serve and to praise God and his Holy Church in all we do.
