What We Do

The Knights of Columbus, an organization of Catholic men of faith, have been guided by the principle of charity since their inception in 1882. Throughout their long and storied history, the Knights have remained dedicated to performing acts of kindness and generosity, serving as a shining example of what it means to be a true charitable organization. Whether through volunteering their time, donating resources to those in need, or simply lending a helping hand to those who require it most, the Knights of Columbus are committed to making a positive impact on the world around them and living out the values of their faith in tangible, meaningful ways.

The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization, broke all previous records in 2017 with their charitable work. They donated an unprecedented $185.6 million and provided 75.6 million hours of service across the globe. According to Independent Sector, a network for nonprofit foundations that values volunteer hours, the monetary value of those hours is estimated at $1.9 billion. Furthermore, the K of C’s survey of charitable giving in 2017 indicates that the monetary donations increased by $8 million (+4.5 percent) from the previous year, and the service hours grew by 527,550 (+0.7 percent). This consistent year-over-year growth in both categories has been maintained over the past two decades. The K of C’s charitable work has been recognized and highly appreciated by several organizations and individuals. For instance, in 2017, the organization was awarded the Special Olympics North America Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) International Global Messenger Award for their consistent support of the Special Olympics. Overall, the Knights of Columbus are known for their commitment to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. They have a long history of supporting the community and making a positive impact on people’s lives.

Our charitable activities are aimed at making a positive impact on communities around the world. We believe in helping those in need, whether it’s through local or international projects. Our initiatives include the Christian Refugee Relief Fund, which provides aid to refugees fleeing religious persecution, and Disaster Relief, which responds to natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. Our Ultrasound Initiative aims to improve maternal and infant health in developing countries by providing access to ultrasound technology. Coats for Kids is another one of our initiatives which provides winter coats to underprivileged children. We don’t limit ourselves to our own charities; we also collaborate with a range of international charities to make a difference on a global scale. For example, we work with the Special Olympics to provide sports opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. We also partner with the Global Wheelchair Mission to provide wheelchairs to people in developing countries who have limited mobility. Habitat for Humanity is another one of our international partners, and we work with them to provide affordable housing to families in need. Through our diverse range of initiatives, we strive to make the world a better place by helping those who need it most.

The Building the Domestic Church initiative is a comprehensive program designed to provide Knights of Columbus and their families with an extensive range of activities that can help them deepen their faith, promote the New Evangelization, and strengthen the bonds of their parish communities. Through this program, members are encouraged to participate in regular church activities, including Bible studies, prayer groups, and retreats. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for service, such as volunteering at local charities and organizing community events. The Building the Domestic Church initiative aims to provide a holistic approach to building and strengthening the faith of Knights and their families, helping them to grow in their relationship with God and with each other.

According to Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, the organization is responding to Pope Francis’ call to reach out to those who are on the fringes of society. The organization’s efforts have enabled them to provide assistance to individuals in need, regardless of their location around the world. At the same time, they also extend their help to their neighbors, making their presence felt in the community they serve. Such actions enable them to become witnesses of their faith, as they consistently offer their support and assistance to those who require it.
