Many children in our society face challenges and risks that prevent them from having a safe and healthy childhood. They depend on adults and the system to protect them and ensure their well-being, but sometimes they are let down by those who should care for them.

When this happens, organizations like Holy Cross Family Services intervene to offer assistance and hope. However, this often involves taking the child away from a dangerous home situation and placing them into foster care. This means that the child has to rely on a system and a person they are not familiar with, which can be frightening and make them feel isolated.

Their dignity is damaged, and they may feel like they have no one to trust. Foster care is essential to safeguard children from harmful home situations, but it can also be a harsh system that does not always meet the emotional needs of the child.

The Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Council 3021, saw this need and decided to address it. In 2021, they launched the Dignity program, whose main goal is to provide Holy Cross Family Services with much-needed items for children in foster care. Over the past two years, the Dignity Drive program has received an amazing display of love and support, allowing it to provide children in need with the dignity they deserve.
